Rod Quinn has played a vital part for Patinack Farm since beginning a stint as its number one rider in December and trainer Jason Coyle is keen to keep the evergreen jockey on the books.

Quinn will ride Raheeb in the Group Two Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday for Nathan Tinkler's thoroughbred racing empire in what will probably be his last ride on the classy entire this autumn.

Quinn took over as number one rider for Warwick Farm-based Patinack after Peter Robl fractured a vertebra in his neck in a three-horse fall at Rosehill on December 10.

Robl is scheduled to make his comeback on Apollo Stakes day at Rosehill on February 21 when Raheeb is slated to run in the feature race.

"Rod has been doing a great job for us and is a very important part of our team now," Coyle said.

"He's trialled a heap of horses for us and he comes back with a clear view of what we've got and how to deal with them, he's a great horseman.

"And he's ridden our horses beautifully on race day too and as we get further into the season we're going to need a second rider and at the moment Rod looks the person for the job."

Last Saturday at Rosehill Quinn produced a perfect ride to score on one of Patinack's Golden Slipper hopefuls, Marquardt.

That followed his winning ride on Subtle Cove for Coyle two days earlier at Canterbury.

Quinn was a mainstay at Crown Lodge when John Hawkes was training for the Ingham family but has had fewer opportunities since the operation was bought by Sheikh Mohammed.

And he is grateful to Patinack for giving him a chance.

"I've really enjoyed my time there and Jason is a good young trainer," Quinn said.

"I understand that Peter comes back and goes to number one rider soon but I'm hoping to stick around."

Raheeb, who won the Group Three Cameron Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle last year, has not raced since his 12th to Maldivian in the Cox Plate (2040m) in October.

Quinn rode the five-year-old in a barrier trial at Randwick on January 30 when he finished second to Ashikaga over 800 metres in a hitout which pleased Coyle.

"It was a good trial and I'm expecting him to go very well," Coyle said.

The Rosehill meeting has been put back more than an hour because of the hot conditions forecast but the heat is of no concern to Coyle.

"We've had a few warm days out at Warwick Farm since I moved here from Newcastle and the horses have coped well, it won't bother him," Coyle said.

If everything goes to plan on Saturday, Coyle said Raheeb would press on to the Apollo Stakes and then the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 7.

"Depending on what happens he could go to the George Ryder or Doncaster after that," Coyle said.

TAB Sportsbet has Queenslander Burdekin Blues as its $2.35 favourite for the Expressway ahead of Raheeb at $4.80.
