Exciting filly Warm Love is more settled and better armed to take on the best sprinters in the spring after returning from an autumn break.

The signs were clear that Octagonal's daughter had star quality when she finished third to Black Caviar and Hay List in the Group One Lightning Stakes in February and she will resume in Saturday's Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

Trainer David Brideoake has been patient with Warm Love, the winner of five of 12 starts, and didn't run her after the Lightning to give her time to mature and strengthen for 1200-metre sprints this campaign.

"Last time in I thought she was a prep away from running six furlongs (1200m) and most of the good races coming up after the Lightning were in that department," Brideoake said.

He said the change in Warm Love was noticeable and that she was stronger and much more relaxed.

"She has usually been a hot-running filly but she's really come a long way mentally," Brideoake said.

"It is the first time in her life she has been laid-back in her work and it will be interesting to see if she transfers that to her races and if she gets back off the speed a touch."

The prospect that Warm Love may have improved and the fact that she got within two lengths of Hay List in the Lightning excites Brideoake.

"If she has improved a length or a length and a half that potentially puts her up there around the Hay List mark, and he and Black Caviar are probably the two best sprinters in the world," Brideoake said.

"I might be dreaming but it is has certainly got me interested, let's put it that way."

Brideoake said he had ramped up Warm Love's workload this campaign to give her a foundation to run a strong 1200 metres, and that the Monash would give him a good idea how well the plans were progressing.

"I am interested to see how she gets to the line and to get a level where she is going to take us," Brideoake said.

"She's in great shape and I am really hopeful of a good result."

Brideoake said he was planning Warm Love's campaign race by race and that the Group Three Aurie's Star Hcp (1200m) at Flemington on August 6 was among her short-term options.
