Trainer Mark Kavanagh says Definitely Ready can topple the heavily-backed Kulgrinda providing he handles the tight Moonee Valley circuit at his first appearance at the course on Saturday.

Definitely Ready, who won five of his first six starts, is after his first black-type victory in the Listed Printhouse Graphics Stakes (1000m) at his 11th start.

The brilliant speedster had a throat operation after his previous preparation and returned after a nine-month layoff with a half-length second to Warm Love over 1000m at Flemington on July 23.

"He's around the mark but he's never been around the Valley, so who knows," Kavanagh said.

"With Warm Love out, it doesn't mean he's over the line. He's still not favourite for that race.

"Kulgrinda is the one he has to beat."

Kavanagh said he had a line on Kulgrinda through Amy's Glen who ran second, beaten 2-3/4 lengths by the Peter Moody-trained mare, in the Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on July 30.

"I wouldn't put Amy's Glen in a similar category to Definitely Ready," the Flemington trainer said.

Kavanagh said he would be looking to run the More Than Ready five-year-old in the Group Three McEwen Stakes (1000m) at the Valley on September 10, all going well.

He had just two runs last spring, both at Caulfield, running fourth to First Command over 1000m and fifth of seven to Set For Fame on a heavy track in the Group Two Caulfield Sprint (1100m).

Definitely Ready was tried at Group One level in the autumn of 2010 when he led and wound up eighth to Shellscrape in The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick.

Michael Rodd, who has won two races on Definitely Ready, replaces Damien Oliver who rode him first-up.

Definitely Ready will jump from barrier six after the scratchings of Warm Love and Johnnydrama while Kulgrinda, to be ridden by Luke Nolen, will jump from one.

"She's going super the mare, I'm really pleased with her," Moody said.

"She's just going to need a little bit of luck from the one alley. We'll get a good idea how the track is playing (by race seven).

"She's a class mare who should be sitting in the box seat and hopefully if she gets a bit of luck from the 400 metres she'll be strong late."

Exceed And Excel four-year-old Kulgrinda, the winner of three of her five starts, has been heavily supported, firming from her opening quote of $4 to be $2.35 favourite.

Definitely Ready, who opened favourite at $3.40, drifted to $4.20 but has come back in to $3.40.

Last-start Group One The Goodwood winner Lone Rock and Wilander are both at $9.50 with Morgan Dollar at $11 ahead of Eight Bills ($13) and Happy Angel ($15).
