Cox Plate hopeful Vision And Power has pleased trainer Joe Pride and comeback jockey Jim Cassidy with a solid barrier trial at Warwick Farm.

The autumn giant-killer finished a length second to stablemate Laravissante over 800 metres in one of 20 trials at the western Sydney track on Tuesday.

Vision And Power will trial again at the same venue on August 14 before returning to the races in the Group Two Warwick Stakes at Randwick eight days later.

Also in action at the trials was the Bart Cummings-trained AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor who ran third to Counterize in an 800-metre heat with Hugh Bowman aboard.

Roman Emperor and Vision And Power will clash first-up in the Warwick Stakes (1400m).

"It was a good starting point for the horse. I liked what I saw and Jimmy liked what he felt underneath him, he hit the line nicely," Pride said.

Cassidy has been sidelined since June after injuring his right shoulder in an incident in the Queensland Derby.

The hoop enjoyed a stellar autumn winning the George Ryder Stakes and the Doncaster aboard Vision And Power and the AJC Australian Derby on Roman Emperor.

"We're looking at the Cox Plate at the end of October, so you don't want him hitting his straps in August," Pride said.

"He'll just poke around in the next trial too, he's a good horse first-up and 1400 metres suits him no matter what I do with him."

Pride was also pleased with the trial of Laravissante, a stable acquisition from Queensland earlier this year who is yet to have a start for the horseman.

"I trialled her twice in the winter here and have been waiting for a dry track to race her on but I couldn't get one and tipped her out for four weeks," Pride said.

"She certainly looked the part today. She's a long way from getting into a decent race, she's a class one horse and that's probably where she'll start, hopefully pretty soon."

Pride was also pleased with the trials of Black Prince and Judged.

"They've pulled up well and handled the day very well," Pride said.

The Warwick Farm trainer said Judged would resume in the Listed Show County Quality at Randwick on Warwick Stakes day while Black Prince will return in the Group Three Concorde Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill a week later.
