Australia's best mare Typhoon Tracy pressed her claims for Horse Of The Year honours with an outstanding victory in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Rosehill.

The triumph was her fifth at Group One level and she did it with ease, coasting up to leader Montana Flyer on straightening and showing superior acceleration to quickly put the result beyond doubt.

The big Golden Slipper day crowd showed their appreciation, breaking into applause during the final 100m of the 1500m race and trainer Peter Moody was just as delighted.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again, she makes my job easy," Moody said.

"She's done us proud once again.

"She's a real racehorse and she loves her trade."

Despite having just claimed a Group One, Moody showed why he is Melbourne's leading trainer, excusing himself to watch a maiden race interstate.

"I just want to watch a race at Wodonga," Moody said.

For the record, his horse Fairy Oak was narrowly beaten.

Following the scratching of class filly More Joyous on race morning, Typhoon Tracy was sent out the $1.40 favourite despite being unknown in the slow conditions.

But like all good horses she adapted and had 2-1/4 lengths to spare over Illuminates ($41) with Montana Flyer ($31) holding on for third.

Illuminates' trainer Graeme Rogerson was ruing Moody's decision to run Typhoon Tracy in the Queen Of The Turf (1500m) rather than the George Ryder Stakes over the same trip later on the program.

"I wish she had run in the other race, I thought she was going to run in the other race," Rogerson said.

"Illuminates is a very good mare, we'll find something else for her over the carnival."

Illuminates is due to go through the ring at the June broodmare sale.

Montana Flyer's trainer Gai Waterhouse was rapt with her mare's effort to do the bullocking work in the lead and still battle on for third.

"She's tough as teak," Waterhouse said.

"The winner won like a long odds-on shot, she's a top-class mare and wouldn't you love to own her."

Moody said Typhoon Tracy would return to Melbourne before heading back to Sydney for one more run this autumn, most likely in the Group One All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 24, the final day of the carnival.

"It's 60-40 to the All-Aged at the moment," Moody said.

"But she is in the Doncaster and you never say never."
