A good barrier and a good track are all trainer Gerald Ryan wants for Melito when she takes on boom filly Irish Lights in the Thousand Guineas.

If she gets conditions to suit, Ryan believes can lower the colours of the David Hayes-trained favourite in Wednesday's 1600m Group One feature at Caulfield.

Irish Lights dominates betting on the race at $2.80 with TAB Sportsbet with Melito out to $15 following her fourth to More Joyous in the Flight Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous has been sent for a spell to preserve her for the autumn.

Melito and stablemate, Melbourne Cup contender Ready To Lift, travelled to Melbourne from Sydney last week and both have settled in well.

"Melito worked on the course proper on Friday and handled it really well," Ryan said.

"All we want is a decent barrier and a dry track.

"She hasn't shown any signs of training off and deserves to win a Group One."

Melito contested all four races in the recent Princess Series, running a close second in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) before winning the Furious Stakes (1400m).

She then ran second to More Joyous in the Tea Rose (1500m) before the Group One Flight (1600m) on October 3 run on a slow track.

The filly's other win from her eight starts came in the Silver Slipper Stakes during the autumn with both victories on good surfaces.

Irish Lights is less experienced having been to the races just four times.

She ran second to Rostova on debut in January's Blue Diamond Preview before beating just one runner home in the Group One Blue Diamond a month later.

Her two starts this spring have yielded two victories, the first over Avenue who has subsequently won her next two races including Saturday's Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield.

Irish Lights is raced by a syndicate comprising Coolmore Stud and several others associated with the Irish stud.

Corey Brown, who has ridden Melito in three of her four races this spring, sticks with the filly in the Thousand Guineas.
