The wheel turned full circle for talented filly Melito who claimed a dominant win in the Group Two Furious Stakes at Randwick after a controversial last-start defeat.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Melito was narrowly beaten by Deer Valley in the Silver Shadow Stakes with winning rider Daniel Ganderton breaching the whip rules.

There were no concerns for Corey Brown on Saturday and he had Melito ($2.60 fav) off the speed set by Our Joan Of Arc and Chordata and poised to strike.

Brown urged Melito to the centre of the track and she lengthened stride inside the final 200 metres to dash to the front.

Hurtle Myrtle ($13) gave chase but a confident Brown rode Melito hands and heels to the line to win by 1-1/2 lengths with Lovemelikearock another two lengths away third.

"She's the real deal," Ryan said.

"She was able to be ridden off the speed from barrier five which was an advantage and so was the firmer track.

"On her work this week I was supremely confident and I was confident all the way down the straight.

"I think she is the best filly I have trained.

"Arctic Scent won a Caulfield Cup but she didn't have the acceleration as a young horse that this filly has.

"It's just great that she won and she will go on to the Tea Rose and the Flight Stakes and we will assess things after that."

Ironically, Brown is the latest high-profile jockey to fall foul of the whip rule and he will appeal a suspension and fine for his ride on Wyong Cup runner-up Lodge The Deeds.

Deer Valley made ground from near the back of the field to finish four lengths fifth and Ganderton was disappointed.

"Bad luck and a bad ride," he said.

Trainer Matthew Smith said Hurtle Myrtle would try to go one better when she takes on Melito in the Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) on September 19 and the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

"I think she will get better as she gets further and we will keep on going," Smith said.

Ryan also believes the extra distance will suit Melito and will consider the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield after the Flight.

"The Thousand Guineas is there as an option and after that I'll get the history books out and look up what Bart (Cummings) has done with his best fillies over the years," he said.

"But one race she won't be in is the Cox Plate."
