The Gai Waterhouse camp says Theseo is in mint condition for Saturday's Group One Ranvet Stakes despite a boil on his back which caused some concern when recently spotted by his owners.

Theseo is the overwhelming $1.75 favourite on TAB Sportsbet for the $400,000 2000-metre feature while the closest to him in betting are Vision And Power and Zagreb who are locked together at $6.50.

Connections of the dual Group One-winning Theseo were alarmed when they initially spotted the blemish.

Waterhouse's racing manager Robyn Hartney said Theseo had the boil in Melbourne but denied it hampered his build-up to the Australian Cup (2000m) on March 7 when he finished a nose second to Niconero.

"Not at all, when the owners saw it on Sunday they thought it was going to get bigger and they were concerned about that but it hasn't changed size since Melbourne," Hartney said.

"It doesn't come in contact with the saddle and Nash Rawiller said it's not causing the horse any dramas whatsoever, it looks worse than it is and the horse doesn't even know it's there.

"Even though it's not hurting him, Gai said we might get it lanced when he goes to the paddock."

Theseo enjoyed a 1400-metre gallop on the Randwick course proper on Tuesday, turning in a performance which pleased Waterhouse.

"He's absolutely spot-on for this race and drawn perfectly in barrier three and everybody connected is very excited about his chances," Hartney said.

Meanwhile, Waterhouse's apprentice Daniel Ganderton gets his chance at Group One glory when he jumps on Gold Water in Saturday's Coolmore Classic (1500m).

Sydney's leading apprentice, Ganderton rode at Kembla Grange on the NSW south coast last Saturday when he celebrated a winning treble.

Gold Water will carry the limit of 51 kilograms in the Coolmore.

"I told Daniel early that he might not be at the provincials this week because I'd spoken to the handicapper and he said there was going to be a stack of horses on 51 (kilograms)," Hartney said.

"He's very excited about it, it's a great opportunity for him, Gai doesn't normally give these rides to apprentices and Daniel is pleased to get the opportunity."

Ganderton boasts an impressive record on the filly having ridden her three times for two wins.

Gold Water comes into the $600,000 1500-metre race after running a short neck second to Gallica in the Group Two Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 7.

Prior to that Gold Water defeated Gallica by 2-1/4 lengths to win the Group Two Angus Armanasco Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield.
