Unbeaten galloper Target is back after a series of setbacks and will have his first start in a year at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Tale Of The Cat four-year-old impressed at his only two starts in February last year when he won by 2-1/2 lengths in a Cranbourne maiden (1000m) and then scored by a half-length over 1200m at Moonee Valley.

Mornington trainer Jason Warren explained that Target had since been halted by a high white cell blood count, irregular muscle enzyme count and leg problems.

"He was going to Hong Kong at one stage but failed the veterinary check," Warren said.

"His owner Phillip Lau is based in Hong Kong and wanted to race him over there."

Warren said Target had also had surgery on a stifle.

"We just have to keep him sound, he's a well-above average galloper and I'm really looking forward to him running on Wednesday," he said.

Target will resume in the All Shot Hcp (1000m) and will be ridden by Craig Williams, replacing Danny Brereton who is chasing back-to-back Launceston Cups on Ista Kareem on Wednesday.

Warren said Williams had a perfect record for the stable having won on Molexio at his only ride for him at Sandown.

One of the best gallopers in Warren's 30-strong team, Viking Turf Belle, is being set for the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on March 21.

The Elusive Quality mare has won city races at Moonee Valley and Sandown since joining Warren's stable and was third to Bellini Rose in the Group Two Blazer Stakes (1410m) at Flemington in October.

She was fourth to Bond Street when second-up from a spell in last Wednesday's Listed Hareeba Stakes (1200m) at Mornington.

Among Target's rivals will be another talented but injury-prone galloper in Arch Symbol who will race with bandages on his forelegs.

The Archway five-year-old, prepared at Warrnambool by Bill Wilde and his son Symon, has raced just four times for three impressive country wins and a second before going amiss.

Arch Symbol hasn't raced since scoring by four lengths in a 0-72 Hcp (1200m) on the first day of the Warrnambool three-day carnival on April 29 last year.

The gelding's dam Centore, by Key Dancer, has had four progeny to race for as many winners, the others being Petit Cadeau, 2008 Coleraine, Mortlake and Coleraine Cups winner Key Symbol and the talented Belfast Card who won two of his only three starts, one by eight lengths at Warrnambool, before breaking down.
