Talented mare Sweepstaking can book a trip to Melbourne with Magic Millions winner Military Rose if successful at Doomben.

Sweepstaking will be ridden by Jim Byrne when she lines up for only her second start this campaign in Saturday's Hardy Brothers Class Six Plate (1010m).

Michael Hellyer, who was Brisbane's champion apprentice last season, was aboard the four-year-old when she resumed with an encouraging sixth to Belletrist in a 1200-metre three-year-old race at Doomben last month.

Sweepstaking got back to last after being slowly away before hitting the line strongly to go down by less than three lengths.

Military Rose's comeback has been delayed by wet tracks and trainer Gillian Heinrich has arranged a jumpout for the filly at the Gold Coast next Tuesday before sending her to Melbourne for her first-up assignment in the Group Two Danehill Stakes at Flemington next month.

"Military Rose is like a cracker ready to go off," Heinrich said.

"Both the Doomben and Gold Coast barrier trials today were abandoned after all the rain we've had but there's jumpouts at the Gold Coast next Tuesday she can run in them before going away."

Heinrich had nominated Sweepstaking for a 1200-metre fillies and mares race at Doomben and was disappointed it was abandoned due to a lack of acceptors.

"I would have preferred the 1200-metre race for Sweepstaking but when it fell away I was offered the chance to run her in the Class Six Plate so I accepted with her," she said.

"Michael Cahill was going to ride her in the fillies and mares race but he already had a ride in the shorter race so I booked Jim Byrne."

Heinrich isn't concerned with a heavy track rating for Sweepstaking with strong westerly winds likely to quickly dry out Doomben which received a deluge on Tuesday night.

"Sweepstaking can handle the wet but it looks like the rain has gone," she said.

"I was a bit disappointed she got so far back at Doomben last start but I liked the way she hit the line.

"Although she can get through the wet she's better on top of the ground and I think she'll be hard to beat on Saturday."

Heinrich hasn't set in stone any specific race in Melbourne for Sweepstaking if she can earn a trip away.

"There's plenty of races for her in Melbourne," she said.

"They cater a lot for fillies and mares in Victoria and there's a suitable race for her just about every week.

"There's no black-type races for her here in Brisbane so if she's good enough she'll go down for those sort of races."

Sweepstaking is no newcomer to travelling after campaigning twice in Sydney last season.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt finished 13th to Denman in the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill last August before she returned for a four-start campaign in Sydney during the autumn.

Sweepstaking earned prizemoney in three of her appearances with her best performance coming in the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in February when she finished third to More Joyous.
