Promising filly Sweepstaking will be on her last chance to book a trip to Sydney for the $1 million Golden Rose when she runs at Doomben on Saturday.

Sweepstaking will do battle with another Golden Rose hopeful, Fab Fevola, in the Aspley Hotel Handicap (1200m).

Trainer Gillian Heinrich had planned to be in the south by now with the daughter of Not A Single Doubt but was forced to cancel the trip at the last minute at Brisbane airport.

"She went off on the tarmac at the airport in Brisbane so we had to bring her back home," Heinrich said.

"I wanted to be in Sydney now with her for some of the lead-up races to the Golden Rose.

"She's still in line to go down for it but she'll need to win and win well at Doomben."

Heinrich has learned from the airport experience with Sweepstaking and has tentatively booked a float trip to Sydney for the 1400-metre Group One feature on August 29.

"You try to do the best for every horse so the plan was to fly her down," Heinrich said.

"But we won't be taking any risks with her if she does go down and she'll go by float this time.

"She was floated to Grafton for her last start and she travelled perfectly."

Heinrich saw a lot of merit in Sweepstaking's performance when the filly finished third to The Mikado and Fear No Other in a 1200-metre Plate at Grafton last month.

The Mikado and Fear No Other meet again in Saturday's Group Three Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill.

"It was a great run at Grafton," Heinrich said,.

"She was first-up from a spell but she ran into some trouble and still hit the line strongly."

Sweepstaking has started only three times, winning at her first two starts at Doomben and Eagle Farm last campaign.

Heinrich has no immediate plans beyond the Golden Rose with Sweepstaking but won't rule out extending her campaign to Melbourne if her form measures up in Sydney.

"She's not nominated for the Caulfield Guineas or any of the other big races over the spring but I'd say the Golden Rose would nearly pull her up this campaign," she said.

"It depends how she goes in Sydney if she gets there. I wouldn't rule out anything just yet."

Heinrich expects Sweepstaking to be given a stern test by Fab Fevola.

"Fab Fevola looks like he's very smart and is the one to beat," she said.

"He beat Fear No Other at Doomben last time and Fear No Other just beat Sweepstaking when the two battled it out for the placings at Grafton.

"But it's hard to get a true line on the two of them."

Fab Fevola has also won two of his three starts and was very impressive winning by more than three lengths when leading all the way last start over 1110 metres at Doomben.
