Plagiarize never got to show her full racetrack potential but Peter Snowden was a happy trainer when the mare's first foal Thrillers broke through for a maiden win at Warwick Farm.

"To me he had just been a tad disappointing so far," Snowden said after Thrillers raced to victory in the Free Entry Today Maiden Plate (1600m).

"He's out of a champion two-year-old we had, she could have been anything Plagiarize."

Plagiarize's racing days were cut short in 2006 after just three starts which included wins in the Silver Slipper Stakes and Kindergarten Stakes.

Trained by John Hawkes, Plagiarize was the Golden Slipper favourite that year but her career was over when she injured a leg as she was being pulled up after the Kindergarten.

Thrillers has the breeding to be good with his father being the 11-time Group One winner Lonhro, and Snowden said the colt had shown plenty of potential but hadn't transferred his talent to the raceday in his first two starts.

Snowden was left deflated when Thrillers failed to win on debut at Warwick Farm last month and again at Newcastle on November 6.

However, the application of blinkers for Wednesday's race was the ace up Snowden's sleeve and the gear change paid immediate dividends as Thrillers sprinted clear of his rivals for a 2-1/4 length win.

"The first day we put the blinkers on him, I thought this would bring the best out of him for sure," Snowden said.

"It really made him focus and that's what he did today."

Darley stable rider Kerrin McEvoy was in the saddle and said the colt's performance had plenty of merit despite the race being only a "moderate maiden".

"He raced off the bit and was full of power when he got out," McEvoy said.

"I'm sure he'll stay further too, so there are different angles he could take."

Nash Rawiller and fellow rider Daniel Ganderton were replaced in the opening race as they failed to arrive on course in time due to traffic problems.

Rawiller was back in action in the second race and earned praise from trainer Grahame Begg after he steered three-year-old Iberian Pleasure to victory in the Start Of Summer 27/11 Handicap (1300m).

"He's just so strong," Begg said of the leading rider.

Begg trained a double when Cabernet scored a determined win in the 100 Club - Join Now Handicap (1400m).
