Danerich colt Crystal Reef will miss the chance to emulate his Golden Slipper Stakes-winning half-sister and stablemate Crystal Lily this autumn.

Trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Crystal Reef was nominated for Saturday's Listed Chairman's Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield but jarred up when winning a Bendigo barrier trial on Monday.

"He has gone to the paddock today," Ellerton said on Tuesday.

"He trialled well at Bendigo but he pulled up a bit jarry in the shins so we have put him out."

Ellerton said it was now unlikely that Crystal Reef would have his race debut before next season.

Crystal Lily, who won last year's Golden Slipper, will resume in Saturday's Listed JRA Stakes (1000m) after being spelled following only two runs last spring.

She suffered back and hock soreness from a buffeting in the Group One Golden Rose in Sydney but Ellerton said she was in top order for what he described as an "Oakleigh Plate preview" on Saturday.

The Chairman's Stakes attracted 31 entries and Crystal Reef was one of 15 first starters nominated.

Much interest will be focused on the unraced Danny O'Brien-trained juvenile Cape Canaveral who has been heavily backed to win the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 26.

The Starcraft colt has firmed with Sportingbet Australia from $21 to $17 for the Diamond and has clearly been the best-backed runner this week.

"Only six horses are ahead in the betting despite the fact he is yet to have a start," Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said.

"We took two bets to win $10,000 on Monday and then a bet of $40,000 to $2000 on Tuesday morning and we have now shortened him up to $17."

Blue Diamond Preview winners Sepoy ($4.40) and One Last Dance ($7.50) head Sportingbet's Blue Diamond market ahead of Anevay and Delago's Lad, who are both at $11.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Hollyweird, the winner of two of her three starts, was scheduled to leave Sydney on Tuesday night for the Chairman's Stakes and is at $13 for the Blue Diamond with Holdontoyahorses.

On Tuesday, 63 horses were paid up as third acceptors for the Blue Diamond, which is 12 more than last year.
