Blake Shinn's return to riding after disqualification switches to Sydney on Wednesday.

Out for most of last year because of a ban for illegal betting, Shinn hasn't ridden at a Sydney race meeting since October 2010.

The 24-year-old broke his ankle in a race fall at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day that year and was disqualified soon after for his betting spree.

He was supposed to ride Precedence for Bart Cummings and Dato Tan Chin Nam in the 2010 Melbourne Cup after winning the 2008 edition on Viewed for the famous trainer and owner.

Appropriately, he will wear Dato Tan's well-known black and white check and yellow sleeves colours in the first of his six Canterbury rides.

He has been booked to ride Penheights in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1550m) - one of two mounts for the master trainer.

Shinn returned to the saddle in Melbourne last month and enjoyed instant success with a Sandown midweek win.

He was disqualified for 12 months after being found guilty of multiple charges relating to betting on the outcome of horse races, including one in which he rode.
