Blake Shinn's autumn carnival aspirations have been dealt a blow with Sydney's premier jockey facing a careless riding charge.

Racing NSW stewards charged Shinn on Monday over his winning ride on Grand Song in the first race at Kembla Grange a day earlier.

Shinn left the course when he became ill after riding Above Perfection to second place in the Keith Nolan Classic and an inquiry into the incident was adjourned.

Evidence was taken on race day from Allan Robinson whose mount In Bocca Lupa was hampered in the final stages of the 1300m maiden.

Stewards notified Shinn of the particulars of the charge which were that he permitted Grand Song to shift out under pressure while riding with the whip approaching the 50 metres when insufficiently clear of In Bocca Lupo resulting in that runner losing its rightful running.

In Bocca Lupa had to be restrained and Robinson was obliged to direct his mount to the inside of Grand Song.

Due to commitments of officials and riders, the inquiry will not resume until next Monday.

Among Shinn's major mounts is Melbourne Cup winner Viewed in Saturday week's BMW.

The jockey missed out on the winning ride on Sebring in the 2008 Golden Slipper due to suspension with Glen Boss picking up the Group One victory.
