Craig Williams will be reunited with the talented Secret Flyer when the Mark Young-trained sprinter resumes in Saturday's $100,000 sprint at Moonee Valley.

Young, who trains at Yeodene near Colac, said he opted for Williams after Logan McGill suffered a broken jaw when punched from behind by an unknown assailant in Mornington last Saturday night.

McGill had surgery on the jaw on Tuesday and is expected to be out of action for around four weeks.

"Logan came down and trialled him on the course proper at Geelong last week when everyone else was busy. He's won three out of three on him and is always under consideration for the ride," Young said.

Williams has ridden Secret Flyer three times for a metropolitan-class win at Cranbourne and placings at Moonee Valley and Sandown between February and April last year.

"The horse is in great order. He's been in work for 11 weeks and has had a good base, but he will improve as he goes," Young said.

"I've kept him nice and fresh as his first two runs will be in 1000-metre races. He'll have a blow after the race on Saturday."

After Saturday's set weights and penalties event the Secret Savings six-year-old is scheduled to start in the Group Three McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 12.

He'll then go to the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at the Valley night meeting on September 25 which is AFL grand final eve.

Both the McEwen and the Manikato are run under weight-for-age conditions.

"He's yet to prove he's up to weight-for-age, but he hasn't done a lot wrong at his last five starts," Young said.

The winner of eight of his 19 starts the gelding has won at four of his last five appearances, twice at Moonee Valley and twice at Flemington.

He was most impressive in winning the Listed Kensington Stakes (1100m) by 4-1/2 lengths from Immortality at Flemington in January with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

But he drew wide and came down the slower grandstand section of the straight 1200m when 4-1/2 lengths ninth to Scenic Blast in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March.

Secret Flyer hasn't raced since powering home from last to win the RDA Victoria Sprint (1000m) at Flemington with McGill aboard on April 18.

He will carry 56kg on Saturday, 2kg less than topweight and Group Two Schillaci Stakes winner Wilander.
