The wet weather has dented Gary Portelli's enthusiasm about Something Anything's Stradbroke Handicap prospects but lifted his spirits with Allervite in the June Stakes.

The in-form sprinter was one of 27 entries for the feature at Randwick on Saturday with rain-affected tracks predicted in Sydney and Brisbane this weekend.

Allervite has won his past two starts in restricted company at Canterbury and also has a win from his only attempt on a slow track.

"He really likes it wet and he will definitely run," Portelli said.

"It's a big step up but he should get in with a nice light weight and this seems a very suitable race for him.

"The weather doesn't look like clearing up so Sea Eye Pea won't be there, she doesn't go in it at all."

The highest rated horse at 103 in the June Stakes (1100m) is the Peter Snowden-trained Posadas who also has wet track form.

Also making a strong claim will be Kroner from the Bart Cummings stable whose record is three from three on slow or heavy tracks.

The winner of the Hall mark Stakes in April, Kroner dashed along the rail to beat Posadas over 1100 metres at Randwick on May 23.

Fantene and last year's June Stakes runner-up Comepsa ran third and fourth in the race won by Kroner.

Mister Celestial, the 2008 June Stakes winner, is among the entries as is third placegetter, noted mudlark Captain Bax.

Apprentice Nathan Berry, who has ridden Allervite to his recent wins, retains the ride in the non-claiming race.

"Nathan knows the horse and rides him well," Portelli said.

"He also rides him the way I tell him to which is a plus."

Something Anything ran seventh in the Doomben 10,000 won by Apache Cat on a slow track and Portelli admitted he was a little disappointed.

"I hoped he would run better and I thought he was a better wet tracker than that," he said.

"But having to carry the 59 kilos at weight-for-age was a big ask and he goes down in the weights in the Stradbroke so that should help.

"The wet isn't going to help him but hopefully he can draw a good barrier and go better than he did."

A wet track will rule stablemate Absent Friends out of the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m).

Absent Friends ran last in the Premier's Cup at Doomben won by Reggie and was beaten almost 33 lengths.

"He went terribly the other day," Portelli said.

"He won't run if it's wet.
