Shin soreness in some of his better two-year-olds is threatening trainer Gary Portelli's Golden Slipper plans.

Portelli revealed his juvenile stocks are under pressure because of an untimely run with youngsters who are in need of the spelling paddock.

"I've got a couple of horses go shin sore who I thought were good enough for the Golden Slipper," Portelli said.

"At this stage it looks like they might miss their chance at getting into the race.

"It seems more likely they will be spring horses next year."

Portelli said shin soreness in two-year-olds was almost inevitable.

"A high percentage will go sore if they are pushed," he said.

"Unfortunately it is all about timing. If they are going to go shin sore you want it to happen in September or October.

"That way you can get them into the paddock and then back again in time for the Slipper if they are good enough."

Of more immediate concern, Shesahussler, a barrier trial winner at Warwick Farm on Monday, showed signs of heading the same way after the 800m heat.

The $80,000 Easter yearling is nominated for the $250,000 Inglis Nursery at Randwick on Saturday but Portelli's confidence about the filly making it to the starting gates is on the wane.

"I've got a feeling she'll be in the paddock," Portelli said ahead of an afternoon stable inspection.

Portelli has produced consistent two-year-old results in recent seasons, highlighted by Black Opal Stakes wins with Delago Bolt (2009) and Down The Wicket (2006).

Down The Wicket ran sixth in the Golden Slipper in Miss Finland's year and went within a half neck of winning the Group One Sires' Produce Stakes at his next start when runner-up to Excites.

Portelli is likely to be without a Saturday runner this week with Offshore Sham and Prerequisite, both entered for a 1200m fillies and mares race, to be saved for easier assignments.
