Exciting 3yo colt Denman confirmed he is the horse to beat in the $1 million Golden Rose (G1) on August 29 with a sparkling performance in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday, reports Mark Smith of Breednet.com.au.

His report adds: Making his first start in Sydney, Denman (Lonhro x Peach (Vain) found another gear when challenged by the highly regarded More Than Great (More Than Ready) to stride clear by1 ╝-length with 1 ¥-length back to Bombay Sling (Danzero) in third place.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the son of Lonhro and his first stakes success. He was third at Flemington when on debut in November last year. Given a break he began his winning run at Kilmore on June 13 then strung wins together at Flemington and Sandown.

"He's a really nice horse with the type of tactical speed that takes them a long way," trainer Peter Snowden said.

"I sent him to Melbourne as an early two-year-old and the first time he galloped my son Paul rang me up and said, 'we've got one here'."
The Woodlands Stud bred Denman is the eleventh consecutive foal of the Vain mare Peach and her third stakes-winner.

She is the dam of VRC Sires Produce Stakes (G1) winner Preserve (Canny Lad) and the Dark Jewel Classic (LR) winner Rio Osa (Canny Lad).
After leaving a foal her first 13 seasons, Peach missed for the first time last year when covered by Librettist (USA). She has a 2yo colt by Commands, named Fragar, and a yearling full brother to Denman.

Denman comes from the second crop by 11-time Group 1 winner Lonhro (Octagonal) and becomes his fourth stakes-winner and his first graded stakes-winner. Denman will be vying to become the charismatic champions first Group 1 winner when he contests the $1 Million Golden Rose at Rosehill on August 29.
