CRACK colt Denman is already being prepared for next month's $1 million Caulfield Guineas, but Paul Snowden, who heads the Melbourne stable of his father Peter Snowden, is confident another star may be unleashed at Caulfield on Saturday, reports John Schell in the Sydney Morning Herald.

He reports: Before Denman ever raced, Paul Snowden declared him to be ''the best two-year-old I've ever sat on''. A big rap, given the experienced track rider use to ride Denman's superstar sire, Lonhro, in all its work. Denman has lived up to expectations and has a group 1 in the bag courtesy of the Golden Rose last month, and now it is the lightly raced Demerit that is being given its chance to shine.

Demerit is another son of Lonhro. Ability-wise, Paul Snowden has Denman streets ahead ''at this stage'' but he warns ''time will tell'' whether Demerit can rise to the top. ''Put it this way, if they ran against each other tomorrow, then I would say Denman would beat him easy,'' he said. ''But that's not to say that Demerit hasn't got the talent to get to Denman's level. Denman is proven and more experienced. Demerit has still got to do it.''
