Voice Commander's trainer Nick Olive says the dual stakeswinner is rock-hard fit and capable of scoring an upset in the star-studded Warwick Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Under normal circumstances Olive said he wouldn't be putting the five-year-old up against the likes of Group One winners Racing To Win and Vision And Power.

But he says if Voice Commander is ever going to beat them, Saturday's weight-for-age Group Two 1400-metre feature could be the race.

"You wouldn't want to take horses of this calibre on too often but we've targeted this race because he is rock-hard fit and ready to go while the better horses are resuming," Olive said.

"I wouldn't set him up against these sort of horses normally, those big-name gallopers have got other priorities down the track whereas my bloke is ready for this race.

"He really is going as well as he possibly can and he'll be spot-on Saturday."

Voice Commander comes into the Warwick Stakes after a fourth to Murray's Sun over 1200 metres at Randwick on August 8 when he jumped from the widest gate, 13.

"There were a few things against him the other day but he came through the run very well," Olive said.

Two starts back Voice Commander overcame a wide alley, 10, and scored an all-the-way win in the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1300m) Toowoomba on July 11.

The win was Voice Commander's second at stakes level after he won the Festival Stakes in December after jumping from barrier 14 of 15.

Olive is used to seeing the horse jump from bad gates in big races and would prefer a change of luck for Saturday.

"I reckon he's due for a decent gate and I certainly wouldn't be complaining if he got one," Olive said.

"He doesn't have to lead to win but he definitely has to be close to the speed and I don't want him having to work too hard early.

"There'll be plenty of speed with horses like Court Command about."

At his last tilt at Group Two level, Voice Commander had barrier 13 of 16 in the Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in December.

He worked hard to cross and it told in the end when he tired badly and beat only two runners home in the race won by Something Anything.

Saturday's race promises to be an intriguing one with Randwick and Rosehill Guineas winner Metal Bender among the 16 nominations together with comeback galloper Court Command and promising pair O'Lonhro and Dreamscape.
