Emperor Bonaparte survived a torrid time in Saturday's Gloaming Stakes but trainer David Payne has revealed problems with fellow three-year-olds Stripper and Baci Amore.

Stripper came back from her fifth to Samantha Miss in the Tea Rose Stakes in some respiratory distress and is being treated for a cough.

Baci Amore, who ran fourth as favourite in last week's Spring Stakes at Newcastle, is suffering from the same complaint.

"As long as she comes right, Stripper will run in the Flight Stakes while Baci Amore will go to Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas," Payne said on Monday.

"He has an extra week to get over it so he should be fine. It's not serious but it has to be treated."

Emperor Bonaparte was lucky not to fall in the Gloaming Stakes after he clipped heels rounding the turn.

His jockey Jeff Lloyd's feet came out of the irons and he was forced to endure a bumpy ride in the straight with the horse finishing last.

"Emperor Bonaparte was very lucky, he almost fell," Payne said.

"But he is fine, he came through it well, probably better than Jeff."

Payne entered Emperor Bonaparte for the Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday and the Dulcify Quality (1800m) with the latter the most likely option.

Much of Payne's focus on Saturday will be on Gallant Tess in the Group One George Main Stakes (1600m), where she will be out to make it two-nil over Triple Honour.

The five-year-old mare is in sparkling form having run a short neck second to Racing To Win in the Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up before holding off the Doncaster Handicap winner by a length in the Chelmsford Stakes (1500m).

Her best performance so far in a Group One race was her third to George Main rival Mentality in the 2006 Champagne Stakes.

"She has done very well since the Chelmsford and gets her chance at weight-for-age here," Payne said.

Blinkers will go back on Triple Honour after he once again showed a tendency to hang in without them in the Chelmsford.
