Kerrin McEvoy was the star of the show at Canterbury where he celebrated a winning treble, but unfortunately for Darley trainer Peter Snowden only one of his stable jockey's triumphant rides was for him.

Snowden was unable to make any ground on Gai Waterhouse in the Sydney trainers' premiership race with his only winner for the day coming with Stifle in the Racing's Night Of Champions Handicap (1900m).

The win cancelled out Waterhouse's victory in the opening race of the day by $1.3 million yearling purchase Boca Chita who was ridden by McEvoy and raced in Sheikh Mohammed's Darley colours of maroon and white.

Boca Chita is one of only four Darley-owned horses trained by Waterhouse.

Waterhouse leads Snowden by 4-1/2 wins after getting one up on him at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

Snowden had a couple of seconds at Canterbury with McEvoy getting beaten a short neck on Counterpane by Small Minds before Deutsche finished behind Dolliparton in the penultimate race of the day.

"It's been a frustrating couple of days but there's always another day," Snowden said.

Snowden trains the bulk of the Darley runners in Australia and his longtime friend and Darley racing manager Trevor Lobb said the competition for the premiership was great for racing.

Snowden is in his first full season in charge of the Darley team which he took over in late 2007 after the Ingham family sold the Woodlands racing and breeding interests to Sheikh Mohammed.

"Gai and Peter have given racing plenty of headlines for all the right reasons during a normally very quiet winter period and that's a great thing for the sport," Lobb said.

"It's just one of those things today, at the end of the day it's Darley winning races and our jockey Kerrin McEvoy was riding well, so our team are happy with that."

Waterhouse stable representative Tania Rouse was pleased with Boca Chita who landed her first win in four starts.

"She was a bit weak last time in but she's strengthened up a lot now and I thought she was strong to the line," Rouse said.

McEvoy also scored on Carnegies Cruzin for trainer Chris Waller in the www.theraces.com.au Handicap (1900m).

Meanwhile, a television cameraman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for observation after falling about five metres from the first level of a viewing tower at the top of the straight.
