Kerrin McEvoy will make his comeback from injury at Canterbury on Wednesday with the Melbourne Cup carnival just around the corner.

McEvoy will be aboard Caveat and Palomares at the midweek meeting in his first race rides since fracturing a vertebra in his back in a fall at Gosford on June 23.

"I'm looking forward to it, there's two nice rides to kick off with and it's good to be back," McEvoy said.

The number one rider for Darley in Australia, McEvoy has been back riding trackwork for the past two weeks and rode in barrier trials last Tuesday and Friday.

"Plus I've been training with my physiologist for the past two months, so I've had a good grounding with my rehab," he said.

"That's picked up in the past few weeks and it's onwards and upwards from here."

Among McEvoy's rides at the Warwick Farm trials on Friday was five-year-old Skytrain, the same horse he was riding at Gosford when he sustained his injury.

Three-year-old Caveat will be the 29-year-old jockey's first ride back in The Liquor Coop Handicap (1100m).

Caveat won her only start in a Seymour Maiden in June and is a full-sister to Group One winner Camarilla.

Last-start winner Palomares is also a strong chance in the Clubmart Handicap (1250m) and will wear blinkers for the first time.

The Melbourne Cup winning-rider said the famous four-day Flemington carnival, which begins with Victoria Derby day on Saturday week, has been in the forefront of his mind as he worked his way back to fitness.

"Every jockey wants to compete during Melbourne Cup week and that was a great lure which has kept me focused during my rehab," he said.

McEvoy is expected to ride the Godolphin import Campanologist in the Melbourne Cup on November 2.
