Trainer Rex Lipp is hopeful barrier rogue Dual Chamber will be on her best behaviour to overcome a poor Doomben record and earn a winter carnival campaign.
Dual Chamber has started six times at Doomben for only one win but Lipp is optimistic she can buck the trend in Saturday's AM Giles and Co Chartered Accountants Open Handicap (1350m).
Her only victory on the track was in the Listed Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m) last April.
The four-year-old mare has been a handful to load into the barriers right through her career which Lipp feels has contributed to several defeats.
"She plays up behind the barriers most of the time," Lipp said.
"It's been a problem she's had most of her career and we've tried just about everything to fix it.
"I've used blinkers and given her extra work leading off other horses and we've even worked her on the side of the road to get her mind right but nothing has worked."
Dual Chamber's record has been restricted to three wins and five placings from 18 starts and her barrier manners have prevented Lipp from venturing interstate.
"I've thought about taking her to Sydney many times but you can't take her away while she continues to be hard to load," Lipp said.
Dual Chamber also brought about her own defeat last start when edged out by Dalzar in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) at Caloundra last month.
"She wanted to lay in over the final 200 metres and didn't go straight. It cost her the race," Lipp said.
"She'll need luck again tomorrow but she'll be competitive."
Lipp has retained regular jockey Kenji Yoshida to ride Dual Chamber for the fourth consecutive time this campaign.
"Kenji is the only rider who gets her into the barriers without too much trouble," Lipp said.
Despite her behaviour Lipp plans to persevere with the daughter of Show A Heart for the Brisbane winter carnival.
"After this run she'll start in the Listed Tatt's Mile next month then she'll have a short break to prepare for the winter," he said.
"The Winter Stakes at the end of the carnival is the race we're looking at and it could even be her last race."
Lipp said connections had not decided her future past the Group One Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm in June but would not rule out a stud career.
