The Robbie Laing-trained Spectrolite will trial at Cranbourne ahead of the Blue Diamond Stakes after recovering from an elevated temperature that caused her to miss her Prelude engagement last week.

Laing said the filly was back on track and a trial on Monday would top her off for Victoria's $1 million two-year-old feature at Caulfield on Saturday.

Danny Nikolic will chase his third Blue Diamond win on Spectrolite while Laing has snapped up leading Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller for stablemate Grand Britannia.

Laing said missing the Blue Diamond Prelude with Spectrolite could end up being fortuitous.

"I am not all that worried that she missed that race," Laing said.

"The Prelude winner (One Last Dance) has gone to the paddock and we might have run in the race with a very wide barrier and overdone it."

Laing said Spectrolite was "feeling lousy" for a couple of days with a temperature but worked well last week and would benefit from a trial on Monday.

"I entered her in the trial just in case and now I am starting to really warm to the idea," Laing said.

"She missed a bit of work so a half-mile (800m) trial would be just nice for her."

Spectrolite won her race debut on Melbourne Cup day and produced eye-catching performances at her other two runs.

She only fell a length short of beating Arctic Command when fifth in the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington on November 6 and was the widest runner when she charged home from last to finish sixth to One Last Dance in the Blue Diamond Preview on Australia Day.

Nikolic, who won the Blue Diamond on Paint (1996) and Redoute's Choice (1999), rode Spectrolite when she was beaten a half-head in a Cranbourne barrier trial on February 7.

Grand Britannia, seventh in order of entry, and Spectrolite, eighth, are both guaranteed runs in the Blue Diamond and are at $35 and $101 respectively with TAB Sportsbet.

Laing's only other Blue Diamond runners were Divine Secret, who was third in 2003, and She's Got Gears, ninth last year.

A Sandown winner at his race debut in late November, Grand Britannia has been competitive at his other three starts.

He had interrupted runs when fourth to Golden Archer in December and second to Blue Diamond favourite Sepoy in the Blue Diamond Preview while last start he struck severe interference at the 250m after getting too far back and finished fourth to Sepoy in the Prelude.

"He is a tough horse and we are hoping for a bit of softness in the track, a good barrier and for him to be a couple of lengths closer in the run," Laing said.

"The 1200 metres won't worry him but last start he was eight lengths off them and it is very hard to pick up the leaders when they kick off the turn."
