She's Got Gears has fully recovered from a recent swimming mishap and is ready to strike in Saturday's Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield.

The Robbie Laing-trained Invincible Spirit juvenile comes into the 1100-metre race after a torrid sixth to Crystal Lily in the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) on Australia Day.

Her preparation for her last start was hampered after she cut her leg swimming about two weeks before the race.

"She had to have four days off to fix her up," Laing said.

"Because she is a fast swimmer she was flying up on the inside of another horse whose swimming action was to kick his hind legs out a long way from his body."

It wasn't until the filly got out of the pool that Laing spotted something had gone amiss.

He noticed a three-inch wound on the inside of She's Got Gear's cannon bone.

"It looked like somebody had cut her with a pair of box cutters," Laing said.

"She went straight to the stable and had to be stitched up and went to the races a bit underdone."

Despite the disappointing result last time out, Laing was very pleased with her overall run in the Preview.

"I thought she went terrific," Laing said.

"She blew the start, raced a bit greenly and got onto heels at about the 600 metres.

"She couldn't get a run up the fence and had to come to the middle of the track but she still finished off really well."

The Preview was She's Got Gear's first run since her third to General Truce in the Group Three Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington last November.

That run came just four days after She's Got Gears scored a thrilling win in the Listed Ottawa Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

"Because she won that race she had two and a half kilos (56.5kg) more than the rest of the field last start," Laing said.

"So I thought under the circumstances with the weight and everything it was a terrific run."

She's Got Gears is among the 16 nominations for the Prelude but co-trainer of Crystal Lily, Simon Zahra, has already said she would not run in the race.

Crystal Lily, who was third in the Ottawa Stakes, will go straight to the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield on February 20.

She's Got Gears is a $21 chance on TAB Sportsbet for the Blue Diamond while Crystal Lily is the equal second pick with Beneteau at $8 behind the Peter Snowden-trained favourite Secession ($7).
