Trainer Robbie Laing is working just 20 horses, but he’s genuinely excited about the next 12 months with his team. If you listen to Robbie, he could have the hottest team of young horses in the land.

“I’ve got the best young staying three-year-old in the land in Polanski, one of the best two-year-old colts in Boomwa, one of the best two-year-old fillies in Golconda, and a flying machine in Lord Of The Sky, so we’ve got a bit of firepower at the moment,” Laing told Racing Network.

Laing is buoyant about the way his last start Victoria Derby winner Polanski has come back.

“He’s 25kgs heavier than he was last time in work and he seems bigger and stronger. Who knows, he might be the real deal,” Laing said.

Polanski will resume at Caulfield on February 8, in either the Group 1 $400,000 C. F. Orr Stakes (1400m), or the Group 2 $220,000 Autumn Stakes (1400m) for three-year-olds. He’ll run in one of the two and his main aim will be the Australian Derby in Sydney.

Boomwa is the nominal favourite for the $250,000 Inglis Classic (1200m) at Randwick this Saturday, while Golconda, coming off a three-length win in the Merson Cooper Stakes at her last start, will go straight to the Blue Diamond Preview at the end of January.
