Punters have gone cold on Koblenz for Saturday's $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast but trainer Gary Portelli has warned not to write the filly off despite her wide barrier.

Koblenz was back out to $16 from $12 on TAB Sportsbet after drawing barrier 18 of 21 for Saturday's 1200m feature for two-year-olds.

"You've got to look at the positives after a draw like that and if there are any scrimmages the wide barrier comes into play for us," Portelli said.

"She's a horse that needs to balance up and unwind to get into her rhythm and from that gate she will get the chance to get going and circle them.

"She's a very handy filly and is ready to go for this race and she shouldn't be discounted."

Portelli said Koblenz had done brilliantly since her long head second to Shadow Assassin in the Magic Millions Prelude at Randwick on Boxing Day.

"She's pulled up enormous and has been aimed at this race from the first time we trialled her," Portelli said.

"The only concern with her is that she can get unbalanced when turning but Corey Brown is a top jockey and he'll be able to get her turning and accelerating at the same time."

Brown, who missed the Boxing Day meeting because of a suspension, was so impressed with Koblenz's debut second behind Cortina Gal in the Wyong Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Slipper on December 7 that he booked the ride for Saturday's race himself.

"He cut out the manager for this ride and told us straight after the Wyong race that he wanted to ride her, so that gave us plenty of confidence," Portelli said.

Brown said he had yet to speak to Portelli about tactics but after riding at the Gold Coast last week, he thought he would be able to get the filly in a nice spot.

"They are destined to go a hundred miles and hour so we should be able to get travelling early," he said.

"Hopefully I can get her running sixth, seventh or eighth three-deep and we get a good run at them."

Koblenz's stablemate Belle Soleil fared better with her barrier in the $1 million Magic Millions Three-Year-Old Trophy (1400m) where she will jump from gate three.

Belle Soleil comes into the race after running fifth to Serenissima over 1200 metres in her last outing on Boxing Day at Randwick.

Before that she defeated We're Lucky to claim the Magic Millions 3YO Stakes (1200m) at Wyong on December 7.

"There is a query over the 1400 metres but now she's drawn this gate she will get a soft run," Portelli said.

"Everything is in good order and I wasn't too unhappy with her performance the other day, she was carrying a fair bit of weight (58kg).

"And getting her back to 54kg is certainly going to help her."

The Gai Waterhouse pair of Bhutane Dane and Rock Kingdom fared badly with barriers 16 and 17 respectively in the Magic Millions Trophy with Express Air elevated to $3.30 favourite after drawing gate seven.

Rock Kingdom eased to $4.60 while Bhutane Dane was an $8.50 chance and Belle Soleil is rated an $18 pick.
