Comeback filly Koblenz faces a huge test at Randwick on Wednesday in a maiden trainer Gary Portelli rates as well above average, but if she measures up a crack at the Princess Series awaits.

The Charge Forward filly runs in the opening event of the day on the Kensington track, the Kingsford Handicap (1100m), in which she tackles the likes of Group-placed Lovemelikearock.

Koblenz has not raced since beating only a couple of runners home in the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic (1200m) won by subsequent Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready on the Gold Coast in January.

Koblenz pulled up shin-sore and had a 29-week spell.

"This is a well above average maiden and whatever wins this is up to Group company and if she does well then we can go on to the Princess Series," Portelli said.

Koblenz has been given two trials leading up to the race with her last outing at Rosehill on July 21 vastly different to her first hitout earlier that month.

"She finished near the back in both of them but her first one was much better," Portelli said.

"She went out the back and chased well but in the last one she got posted five-deep and was disappointing in the run home."

Portelli admits that he isn't sure what to expect from Koblenz from her wide barrier, 12, on Wednesday but if she replicates what she did in her first couple of starts anything is possible

"She'll be the horse to beat if she has a bit of luck. She showed early on what she is capable of, hopefully we'll see it on Wednesday." Portelli said.

"It's going to be tricky from out there and Nathan's (Berry) going to have to work out pretty quickly what to do with her.

"The main thing is to see her hit the line strongly. She's going to get better over further."

Koblenz finished a long neck second to Cortina Gal in the Magic Millions Slipper (1000m) on debut at Wyong in December last year.

She followed that up with a long head second to Shadow Assassin in the Magic Millions Prelude (1200m) at Randwick on Boxing Day.

The Anthony Cummings-trained Lovemelikearock ran a half-neck second to Headway in the Group Three Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) two starts back in March before finishing fourth to Indian Ocean two weeks later in the Group Two Magic Night Stakes (1200m) last start.

The Princess Series kicks off with the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 22 followed by the Furious Stakes (1400m) on September 5.

Two weeks later is the 1500-metre Tea Rose Stakes followed by the final leg, the Group One 1600-metre Flight Stakes.
