Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Mark Kavanagh will try for a two-state Listed sprint double on Boxing Day with topweight Here De Angels in the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield and Catapulted in the Christmas Handicap at Morphettville.

Six-year-old Here De Angels has been freshened since being beaten a nose by Ahdashim over 1200m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day when he carried 60.5kg.

He carries 59kg on Saturday which is the same weight he won with two starts back when he defeated Ahdashim by 2-3/4 lengths.

"It's enough weight to win any race with but certainly he is a proven weight carrier," Kavanagh said.

"We've spaced his races and he's a pretty old horse right now so we've just got to wait and see."

The winner of nine of his 25 starts and over $500,000 in prizemoney, Here De Angels is the $3.70 pre-post favourite with TAB Sportsbet.

He will be ridden by Steven Arnold while Catapulted will be handled by Simon Price as he tries to make it five straight wins in the Christmas Hcp (1400m).

"He's doing well and his record reads well right now but he's never been over 1400 before and he's drawn out in barrier 14, so there are a few question marks about him on Saturday," Kavanagh said.

The four-year-old has won six of nine starts and had a long layoff of nearly 14 months after running seventh to Super Boy in the Listed Vain Stakes at Caulfield in August 2008.

His only defeat since he returned was a long neck second to Custodian over 1000m at Morphettville on October 3.

Meanwhile, Doug Harrison will have a shot at the stumps with Tantat Secret ($41) despite drawing barrier 15 in the Christmas Stakes.

Wayne Davis will ride the eight-year-old who has been unplaced in four starts since winning the Echuca Cup (1400m) in March.

"From the awkward draw it's a matter of giving the horse the chance to find his feet, balance and find his comfort zone as I want the horse to be finding the line," Davis said.

Davis was pleased with the gelding's first-up effort when ninth to Posadas, beaten only 2-1/2 lengths, over 1200m at Moonee Valley on November 28.

"I thought he ran a nice race last start. He's worked along very well since and is better for the run," he said.

"I ride him in most of his trackwork. He's not the easiest horse to ride but knowing the horse inside out you know his traits.

"Doug has the horse looking immaculate and I think he can run a very nice race."

Harrison ran his former smart sprinter Hon Kwok Star in four successive Christmas Stakes between 1996 and 1999 with his efforts highlighted by thirds to Jugulator in 1997 and Sports in 1998.
