Gerald Ryan is looking at a two-state stakes double this weekend with Synonym to run in the Civic Stakes at Rosehill and Flaming, winner of the race two years ago, to contest the Ascot Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Synonym has been out of form this winter and the trainer is hoping that is due to the wet tracks and is also hoping the rain predicted later in the week stays away.

A former Gai Waterhouse charge, Flaming ran a close second to Spy Zaim in the Scone Cup in May 2007 but later left the stable after he suffered a suspensory injury.

He had six runs for Ryan late last year without success but has recently been enjoying the country life at the trainer's Murwillumbah stable.

"Flaming looks very well, he likes the atmosphere at Murwillumbah," Ryan said.

"Unfortunately he missed a run in the Murwillumbah Newmarket on Sunday when the races were washed out so that might tell against him.

"Synonym has not been going well on the wet tracks and hopefully they are what has been hindering him.

"He seems very well and I can't think of any other reason.

"I trialled him on Friday and he went well, not brilliantly, but well, so I'm hoping he can get back to some form on Saturday."

A year ago, Synonym put together three straight wins and finished fourth in the Ipswich Cup and third in the Caloundra Cup.

Synonym was one of 17 entries for the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) with last week's Takeover Target Stakes winner Strat's Flyer among them.

Also in the nominations is the in-form Prince Braeman from the Paul Perry stable.

The winner of his last three starts, Prince Braeman is one horse who has found the wet to his liking with two of those victories on heavy tracks.

As well as having Flaming at the Brisbane meeting, Ryan will be represented by three-year-old Bullion Bay in a 1400 metre maiden.

"It's a $100,000 maiden for the first meeting under the banner of the new club in Brisbane," Ryan said.

"When I saw it last week, I scratched her from Canterbury and sent her up there.

"She has run placings at her only two starts and is worth a chance in a race like that."

The rich prize has attracted 44 entries for the maiden while 12 stayers have been nominated for the Queensland Cup (3200m).
