The father-son training team of Bevan and Richard Laming is looking for stakes wins in two states on Saturday with Naadji the first of their chances in action in the Winter Cup at Rosehill.

Later in Queensland, Phaze Action gets his chance in the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m).

Queensland based Bevan Laming will oversee Phaze Action on the Sunshine Coast while Victoria based Richard will be in Sydney with Naadji for the Listed Winter Cup, also over 2400 metres.

Richard Laming, 27, who has been training for a year in partnership with his father, says both horses are in top order for their next assignments with Naadji arriving in Sydney early Friday morning.

The four-year-old comes into the Winter Cup after running fifth to Inkster on a heavy track over 2400 metres at Sandown on June 13.

Conditions will be heavy again at Rosehill but neither the track nor Sydney way concern Laming.

"He likes the cut out of the track and he's already won going the Sydney way in New Zealand in his second start," Richard Laming said.

"We're very happy with him and we think this is a very suitable race for him.

"He should run well, he's got a good rider (Corey Brown) and he's well-weighted with 53 kilos."

Two starts back, Naadji finished strongly to defeat Scenic Scene by a short head at Flemington over 1800 metres on May 30.

The Luke Oliver-trained Scenic Scene was sent to Sydney for the wet tracks and duly won at Randwick last Saturday.

Laming said Naadji could book himself a crack at the $150,000 Banjo Paterson Series Final (2500m) at Flemington on Saturday week with a strong performance at Rosehill.

Phaze Action is being aimed at the Queensland Cup (3200m) on Saturday week and has done well since his unplaced 1800-metre pipe opener at the Gold Coast on June 13.

The five-year-old underlined his staying credentials with victory in the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m) at Flemington last month.

"His work on Wednesday was brilliant and the heavy track up there won't be a problem either, he won on a heavy eight at Sandown in April," Laming said.

"We gave him that last run mainly to get him used to their way of going and he's come through it well."

Laming said that while the Queensland Cup was the grand final for Phaze Action, he believes the Caloundra Cup is winnable.

"The Queensland Cup is probably more of his go but in saying that, it's (Caloundra Cup) not an overly strong race, there's a couple there that go good but we're expecting him to be running on pretty strongly."
