Trainer Greg Eurell says Red Colossus is in top order and won't have any excuses when he takes on Whobegotyou in Saturday's Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Weight-for-age star Whobegotyou is shooting for his third successive victory in the Group Two 1600m feature.

If he is successful he will join Shorengro (1968-1970) as the only horses to win the event - then a handicap and formerly known as the Feehan Stakes - in three consecutive years.

While the Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou is coming off a first-up victory in the Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, Red Colossus was third to King's Rose when resuming in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at the same track on August 27.

"He hasn't missed a beat. He went into the Memsie very fit and well and he's come out of it very well. You wouldn't even know he's gone around," Eurell said.

"He's just in very good fettle, the horse. He's got to the point where he's matured quite a lot.

"Even last prep his two runs were very good and I thought his first-up run was exceptionally good. He's in really good order."

Eurell was glad that Red Colossus, to again be ridden by Chris Symons, drew out in barrier nine in the 10-horse field.

He said the big gelding was actually disadvantaged by drawing gate one in the Memsie, having to settle back along the fence before getting into the clear to make his run.

"It will give him the opportunity to blend into the race," he said.

"The mile (1600m) is very suitable to him.

"Certainly Whobegotyou is going to be tough to beat but our bloke is probably the best he's been in himself.

"He's benefited from time. He's a lightly-raced horse and the draw helps to give us a bit of room."

Eurell did not pay up for the Testa Rossa five-year-old as a first acceptor in the Caulfield Cup but has left him in the Cox Plate for which Whobegotyou is $7 favourite after finishing third to So You Think last year.

If Red Colossus wins on Saturday it would be a welcome result for Eurell who prepared Apache Cat when he was nosed out by Lad Of The Manor in 2006.

Lad Of The Manor, who also won the race in 2005, and Inaflury (1999) are the only horses to complete the Lawrence Stakes-Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes double - which Whobegotyou is striving to achieve - since 1985.

Only three horses have attempted it in that time with Shoot Out winning last year's Lawrence and finishing third at the Valley.

Whobegotyou is $1.50 favourite with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Rekindled Interest ($8), Linton ($11) and Red Colossus ($12) with Alcopop at $14 and Spacecraft at $15.
