Young apprentice Tiffany Jeffries, the grand-daughter of retired champion Sydney jockey Kevin Langby, has been given a great opportunity at Orange on Friday aboard highly-promising two-year-old Strike Alert.

The Neil Osborne-trained filly, conqueror of unbeaten reigning Magic Millions favourite Karuta Queen in a Canberra trial before making a winning debut at Queanbeyan on December 16, lines up in the Luke Bennett Plumbing Hcp (1000m).

Jeffries, indentured to her mother Sharon Jeffries at Parkes, takes over the reins from Jason Collins who is required at Wagga tomorrow.

Canberra-based Osborne said Strike Alert came through her 3-3/4-length 900m Queanbeyan win in great order.

"She did a few things wrong at Queanbeyan, lugged out at the turn, but finished off the race really well, ran good time and a quick final sectional (last 600m in 33.60 seconds) on a dead track," he said.

"I haven't done a lot with her since. She's done a couple of laps of the pool, walking and I took her to the track on Wednesday when she did pacework and a bit of a gallop.

"Jason (Collins) reckons she's improved and going well enough to win again.

"I hope he's right.

"Unfortunately Jason was required at Wagga but Tiffany has ridden for me before. Strike Alert is the sort of horse that should suit her.

"She'll do all right."

Osborne has known Kevin Langby for many years.

"I don't think Kevin ever rode one for me but he's about the same vintage and he'd be delighted the way Tiffany's going," he said.

Strike Alert, bred by Osborne after purchasing the filly's dam Strike Time from Rado Boljun, is on the small side at 420kg but all racehorse.

"She's about the same weight as at Queanbeyan," Osborne said.

"She will have benefited a lot from the experience on debut.

"She's bright and happy, ready to go again."

Future plans for Strike Alert include the Black Opal Prelude and $200,000 Black Opal at Canberra in March.

"There's a chance she could back up after Orange in Sydney on New Year's Day. I'll just see how she pulls up," Osborne said.

Jeffries is also booked for the Osborne-trained Murphy's Plan in race seven with Michael Travers to partner the trainer's To Dubawi Go in race four.
