Con Karakatsanis will be trackside at Doomben on Saturday to watch his two feature race runners but he will also have one eye on Rosehill.

Karakatsanis will saddle up Black Piranha in the Group One Doomben 10,000, a race the eight-year-old will be striving to win at his fourth attempt.

He will also start Queensland Derby contender Reigning in the Group Three Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Doomben.

Sandwiched in between, Nothing Like Luca will fly the stable's flag in the Fujitsu Air Conditioning Handicap (1100m) at his home track of Rosehill.

The four-year-old has not raced since he was stepped up to 1600 metres for the first time in the Orange Cup in March, finishing a creditable third on a heavy track.

Prior to that he was fourth to the handy Fontelina over 1400m at Rosehill.

"He hasn't had a trial so whatever he does on Saturday there is still a lot of improvement in him," Karakatsanis said.

"He's a nice horse and he's come back well.

"They might run him off his legs a bit but hopefully he will be hitting the line."

Nothing Like Luca's two wins have been over sprint distances but Karakatsanis believes his best trip is around 1600 metres.

Each July the Rosehill trainer takes a team to Grafton for their annual carnival and he hopes Nothing Like Luca can book a spot on it this time around.

"He's transformed into a nice country Cups horse," Karakatsanis said.

"I will probably head to Grafton with him for a race like the South Grafton Cup but he's not without a chance of picking up some metropolitan status races along the way.

"He's been a big kid, very headstrong and he can do a lot of things wrong.

"But as he's got older and with time, he's mending."

Nothing Like Luca has struck a strong race on Saturday headed by Group One placed mare Red Tracer.

She will carry 58.5kg after the three kilo claim of apprentice Shaun Guymer and is being readied for a Brisbane campaign with the Group One Stradbroke Handicap a potential target.

Karakatsanis also has his sights on a third Stradbroke with Black Piranha, who won it back-to-back in 2009-10, and last Saturday's Scone winner Riva De Lago.

Riva De Lago will line up in Brisbane on Saturday week and will be given the chance to force his way into the Stradbroke field by winning one of the leadup races.
