Ice Chariot will have his final Queensland start in the Listed Tattersall's Members' Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday before he heads south to embark on a Sydney Cup campaign.

Trainer Ron Maund has nominated the 2006 Queensland Derby winner for the 1600-metre feature and has retained Phillip Wolfgram as his jockey.

Maund has been concerned with the massive weights Ice Chariot has received in Brisbane since he returned from his Melbourne Cup campaign last spring and has warned the six-year-old may have to follow the carnivals around the country to continue his career in the future.

Ice Chariot was due to resume over 1200 metres Eagle Farm on February 14 but a heavy track postponed his return until the following week at Doomben.

"Unfortunately it was a heavy track again but he had to start off somewhere," Maund said.

The son of Semipalatinsk was burdened with 62.5 kilograms for his comeback and his effort to finish 11th, beaten just over six lengths, to Striking Victory over 1350 metres didn't displease the astute Toowoomba trainer.

"It was a tidy run but the wet didn't suit him and he doesn't like Doomben," Maund said.

"He had to start off somewhere after we missed out running him the previous week.

"At this stage he's running at Eagle Farm next Saturday and then he'll be off to Sydney."

Maund has not yet finalised the gelding's Sydney program but his main missions are likely to be the weight-for-age Group One BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on April 4 and Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick on Anzac Day.

"I'm not sure yet where we'll kick off with him in Sydney but there's a good array of races for him down there," Maund said.

"I might have to find a travelling companion to take away with him.

"It's a costly exercise having Neville Saunders in charge of only one horse in Sydney."

Saunders has been Maund's stable foreman for many years and was responsible for champion sprinter Gold Edition whenever she campaigned interstate.

Ice Chariot finished 11th in the Melbourne Cup won by the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed last November.

In five Melbourne starts during the spring, Ice Chariot's best performance was his third to Gallopin in the Group Two Cathay Pacific (2500m) at Moonee Valley.

Maund was also happy with Ice Chariot's fifth in the Group One Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington when he came from last to be beaten only five lengths by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Theseo.
