Goulburn trainer Danny Williams is hoping Holdem will continue the stable's extraordinary winning run at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Williams only broke the longest winning drought in his 12 years based in the NSW Southern Tablelands about two months ago.

"It went for about six months, it was unbelievable, we couldn't get a win anywhere," Williams said.

"But the chocolate wheel has turned our way and they are on fire at the moment, the stable has won eight or nine races from our last 14 runners."

Williams, who has only 10 horses in work, had three winners at Wagga on Thursday including Wasted Emotions in the Wagga Town Plate.

Stablemate Samtheflirt won the next day at Wagga while Cape Breton, a winner at Randwick on Anzac Day, ran second in the Listed Wagga Cup.

Holdem runs in Wednesday's Freeway's Great Steaks Handicap (1900m) and finished sixth to Cape Breton over 2000 metres at Randwick last start.

Prior to that Holdem scored a thrilling short half-head win over Jordan Valley over the same distance at Kembla on April 18.

"Since Kembla he hasn't improved and has levelled out but he will run well," Williams said.

"His pattern of racing doesn't help him much because he is a sitting duck for the sit-and-sprint horses.

"But it's too late in his prep to change his pattern and he'll be close to the speed again."

Williams said the bulk of his team, including Wasted Emotions, would be floated to Brisbane for the winter carnival.

"Because we are a small stable it's easier for me to send the whole team who are in work up there so I can keep a closer eye on things," Williams said.

"But I don't think there's anything up there for this bloke (Holdem), he's been up for a while and this could be his last run this campaign.

"But we'll see what he does on Wednesday before we make any decisions with him."

Williams has nominated two of his winners from Wagga last week, Samtheflirt and Take This Waltz, for Hawkesbury on Saturday.

"We'll see what sort of nominations they get for their races and barriers will also play a big part in whether they run on the tight track," Williams said.

Samtheflirt is going for three consecutive wins after coming into the Wagga meeting after a victory at Goulburn on April 20 as is Take This Waltz who scored at Warwick Farm in late March.
