The St Kilda Football Club's ten-game winning streak in 2004 was considered an event so rare and amazing that the club felt they had no option but to release the above-pictured DVD, to finally give the success-starved Saints faithful their long-awaited time in the sun. Interestingly, the DVD encapsulates only Rounds 1 to 10, with no September action featured...

As it is, lucky the St Kilda powerbrokers weren't moving and shaking in 1870's Hungary, for surely the hype surrounding the champion unbeaten racemare Kincsem - whose winning streak encompassed all 54 of her career starts - would have soared to a realm of hysteria far beyond mere commemorative postage stamps and statues. Hungarian for 'precious' or 'my treasure', Kincsem was a plain little thing who would grow to cut a swathe upon the racetracks not only of her homeland, but throughout Europe, dominating her opposition in Germany, Austria, England and France to eventually retire in 1879 an unassailable icon. We all very much hope Black Caviar can do the same (although 54 on the trot is probably asking a bit much), as judging by the wonderful reception she received at Doomben on Saturday, she has become too important to be marked by the black brand of defeat.
