Trainer Norm Hilton is in a dilemma as to where to start Group One Doncaster Mile-bound Bold Glance on Saturday.

Toowoomba-based Hilton originally preferred to head to Brisbane with Bold Glance for the Makers Mark Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm but a better barrier draw in the $100,000 Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) could force a change of venue.

"I had my heart set on running him in Brisbane until he drew badly in 10," Hilton said.

"I accepted with him for the Gold Coast Stakes and he's got barrier two there."

Compounding Hilton's dilemma is that Chris Munce can only ride Bold Glance at Eagle Farm, leaving Dean Tanti to ride the six-year-old if he runs in the Gold Coast Stakes.

"My head says it's stupid to give up the two alley at the Coast," Hilton said.

"But if I go there I won't be able to back him up in the Canterbury Stakes in Sydney next week.

"That means he'll have three weeks before his next run in the George Ryder which is not unusual for him but not ideal."

Hilton will hold off making his decision until Saturday when he hopes to get a better gauge on track conditions.

Both venues were in the slow range on Thursday.

"I'll more than likely make a decision on Saturday after I see what the tracks are like," he said.

"It's pretty wet at the Gold Coast and if it's too wet I'll run him in Brisbane."

Hilton is keen to start Bold Glance in the weight-for-age Group Two Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on Saturday week before the Group One George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 7 and the Group One Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 21.

Bold Glance underwent surgery to remove chips from both front legs following his ninth to Sincero in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm last June.

Just prior to his comeback, Bold Glance suffered a minor setback when he struck himself and missed a week's work which delayed his return until his creditable fourth to Haizum on a waterlogged Eagle Farm on March 3.

"He was supposed to run in the Falvelon Handicap last month but he banged his leg in his box and we couldn't give him a barrier trial," Hilton said.

"The leg is fine now and I thought he could still win first-up despite his long break from racing.

"Unfortunately he struck a wet track and he was in the worst part of it but I was happy enough with the run."

Hilton is confident Bold Glance will again measure up to the autumn carnival in Sydney.

Bold Glance campaigned in Sydney last autumn when he was placed in the Group Three Doncaster Prelude (1600m) at Randwick before finishing third to Sacred Choice in the Group One Doncaster Mile at the same venue in April.
