Bold Glance has made a quick recovery from a minor injury setback and is set to launch his Group One Doncaster Mile campaign at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Trainer Norm Hilton had planned to give Bold Glance a barrier trial before the six-year-old's scheduled return in the Listed Falvelon Handicap (1200m) at last Saturday's washed-out meeting at Eagle Farm.

However Bold Glance, who had minor knee surgery to remove small bone chips in his front legs during his break, missed a week's work after he struck himself recently.

"He was supposed to run in the Falvelon last Saturday but he banged his leg in his box and we couldn't give him a barrier trial," Hilton said.

"The leg was hot and sore and had to be treated with antibiotics and I had to ice it every day.

"The swelling has gone down and you wouldn't know it happened."

The Falvelon Handicap has been added to Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting but Hilton has decided to run Bold Glance in the Southbank Insurance Brokers Handicap (1000m).

"I still haven't been able to find him a trial and I'd prefer not to go to 1200 metres first-up without a trial," Hilton said.

Hilton has booked apprentice Brooke Richardson to ride Bold Glance in his return but is hoping Chris Munce will be available for his Sydney commitments.

"I've decided to claim on him and Brooke has been riding him for the past week," Hilton said.

"She rode him in a barrier trial when she was just starting off and she knows him well now."

Bold Glance hasn't started since finishing ninth to Sincero in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm last June.

"He's come back bigger and stronger than ever," Hilton said.

"I think you'll see a better horse this campaign. He's beefed up and should carry weight better this time in."

Hilton campaigned Bold Glance in Sydney last autumn when he was placed in the Group Three Doncaster Prelude (1400m) Randwick before finishing third to Sacred Choice in the Group One Doncaster Mile at the same venue in April.

"We always knew he had some wear and tear issues with his fetlocks and it surfaced during last year's winter," Hilton said.

Bold Glance will have one more start in the Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) on March 17 before heading interstate.

The Group One George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 7 and the Group One Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 21 are his main autumn targets.
