Gillian Heinrich hopes to persuade jockey Larry Cassidy into becoming the stable's permanent rider after he partners Cat D'Antibes in the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast.

Cassidy, the latest rider to escape Sydney racing, will move to Brisbane later this month to continue his career and is already in Heinrich's sights to become her No.1 rider.

Heinrich has not officially approached Cassidy about a stable position but plans to talk with the former New Zealander as soon as possible after Saturday's Magic Millions day.

Heinrich, who also will saddle up Feline Flyer in the 1400-metre feature, said she understood Cassidy's desire to remain freelance and ride work for a number of trainers in Brisbane.

"I need a permanent rider in my stable and I'm planning to talk with Larry about becoming my No.1 rider after the Magic Millions," Heinrich said.

"At the moment Glen Colless does a lot of my riding but he's had a long and successful association with Alan Bailey.

"I don't blame Larry if he wants to stay freelance but he could ride for me permanently if he could come down from Brisbane to ride trackwork once a week.

"At the end of the day I need a stable rider and things might change after Larry's been riding here in Queensland for a month or so."

Cassidy plans to base himself at Brisbane's Eagle Farm where he has already been sounded out to ride work for premier trainer Barry Baldwin.

"I'm really excited about moving to Brisbane," Cassidy said.

"I've won a lot of the big races in Queensland including two Brisbane Cups but I haven't had any approach from Gillian to be her No.1 rider.

"I'm prepared to talk with her and I'll go into any meeting with an open mind.

"Queensland racing is on the way up from what I can see from being in Sydney.

"The field sizes are big compared to Sydney and the prizemoney keeps improving."

Cassidy, a winner of 40 Group One races, has never won the Magic Millions Trophy while his best effort in the Magic Millions Classic was on the Graeme Rogerson-trained Not A Single Doubt who was runner-up to Dance Hero in 2004.

Heinrich concedes Cat D'Antibes faces a difficult task to win after drawing a nightmare barrier 20 while Craig Williams' mount Feline Flyer drew the rails.

"It's hard for Cat D'Antibes from the barrier now and Feline Flyer has natural gate speed to use from her good gate," Heinrich said.

"If you look at barriers, Feline Flyer is my best chance but I really do like Cat D'Antibes."

Cat D'Antibes will be having his third run this campaign following his last start sixth to Youthful Jack in the Listed Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben last month.

Feline Flyer has won four of her seven starts including a 1200-metre victory at Doomben on December 6 before her close second to Andamon when she stepped up in distance to 1350 metres for the first time at Doomben a fortnight later.
