Gold Coast trainer Gillian Heinrich is hoping a return to a dry track at Eagle Farm will boost Audacious Spirit's bid for a Sydney campaign.

Heinrich rates Audacious Spirit one of her team's better sprinters and hopes to chase black-type races in Sydney during the autumn if the colt wins the XXXX Gold Handicap (1200m) on Wednesday.

The son of Bel Esprit scored impressively first-up at Eagle Farm in November before wet tracks disrupted his summer campaign.

The three-year-old then had more than a month between runs when fourth to Celtic Dancer on a heavy track over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day.

"The heavy track and six weeks between runs was too much for him," Heinrich said.

"He's a big horse. He weighs 560 kilos and stands about 16 hands so he probably needed the run."

Heinrich would have preferred a better barrier than 11 but she's still confident with Audacious Spirit.

"Considering the circumstances last start it was a great run and if he runs well tomorrow he could go to Sydney," she said.

"I haven't looked at any program with him yet but there's a few black-type races which look suitable."

While Heinrich is looking interstate with Audacious Spirit, rival Spirit Of Boom will head to the paddock after the pair clash.

Trainer Tony Gollan planned to spell Spirit Of Boom following the colt's fifth to Torio's Quest in the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast earlier this month.

"The Magic Millions was supposed to be his grand final before he went to the paddock but I've decided to give him one more run before he goes out," Gollan said.

"I was a bit disappointed with him in the Magic Millions but he didn't get a lot of luck and was caught three wide.

"I'm glad to see him back on a good track but the most important thing he has to do is relax."

Gollan has booked Michael Cahill to partner Spirit Of Boom with regular rider Larry Cassidy suspended.

"He'll be hard to beaton a good track but either way he'll be in the paddock straight after this run," he said.

Gollan has already pencilled in the three-year-old's comeback date ahead of the Brisbane winter carnival.

"He'll come back for the Mick Dittman Plate and then run in the Gold Coast Guineas," he said.

"Hopefully if he goes well in those races he'll go on for some of the bigger winter races."

Spirit Of Boom's half-brother Temple Of Boom won the Mick Dittman Plate last April before finishing second to Beethog in the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas.
