Spirit of Boom booked a Brisbane winter carnival campaign with a stunning victory at Eagle Farm.

The Toowoomba flyer, ridden perfectly by Michael Cahill, stormed home to down Gold Coast sprinter Audacious Spirit by 1-1/2 lengths in Wednesday's XXXX Gold Handicap (1200m).

Trainer Tony Gollan, who earlier won with Koranovsky, immediately declared Spirit Of Boom was the best horse he had trained.

"Temple of Boom is his half-brother and until now was the best horse I've had but I've changed my mind now," Gollan said.

"I'm going to spell him and put him away for the winter carnival.

"He'll start off in the Mick Dittman Plate and then will be set for the Gold Coast Guineas."

Temple of Boom won the Mick Dittman Plate last April for Gollan before finishing second to Beethog in the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas.

Gollan has never lost faith in Spirit Of Boom who wasn't suited by a slow track when fifth to Torio's Quest in the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Gold Coast filly Merryanna also earned a shot at winter carnival riches after her breakthrough win in the BOAG's Premium Handicap (1000m).

The daughter of Stratum, who was coming off a last-start ninth to Karuta Queen in the Magic Millions Classic, led all the way for an easy 2-3/4 length win over debutante God Bless Us.

Trainer Maryann Thexton has always had a good opinion of the filly despite her dicky front legs which was the main reason she went through the sale ring for only $5,000.

"She's a stakes-placed city winner now and I'll put her away for the winter carnival," Thexton said.

"I think the Sir Douglas Wadley would be a nice race her for in the winter.

"She's only ordinary in front but it doesn't slow her down."

Trainer Alan Bailey is also looking towards the winter carnival after Rokatoko landed his fifth victory in 11 starts with a 3-1/2 length win in the Toohey's New Plate (1400m).

Bailey rated the son of Fastnet Rock highly after he made his opposition look second rate.

"He's a horse going places. Captain Sonador beat him one day when he shouldn't have and Listen Son also beat him when we had two kilos more," Bailey said.

"I definitely think he's a winter carnival horse."
