Sepoy's defeat in the Todman Stakes has opened up the Golden Slipper market and given heart to connections of his rivals.

Until Saturday, Sepoy had a stranglehold on betting for the $3.5 million Slipper (1200m) on April 2 and was the $2 favourite.

He has eased to $2.90 with his conqueror Smart Missile firming from $21 to $5.50 second favourite with TAB Sportsbet.

Satin Shoes, who suffered a shock defeat in the Reisling Stakes, drifted from $8 to $11 with the winner Elite Falls now into $9.

Smart Missile's Slipper preparation suffered a setback at the beginning of the year and he will go to the big race with just two starts under his belt, both winning ones.

But in what is becoming a growing trend among trainers seeking to change their horses' routine, Cummings has been able to take Smart Missile out of the busy environment at Randwick and keep him fit at Wild Oaks farm north west of Sydney.

"Wild Oaks was established by Julia Ritchie and myself and has a water walker and a mile and quarter (2000m) training track," Cummings said.

"Smart Missile had some mucous in his trachea and nothing was working so I was able to take him away from Randwick.

"He did the work and got better and I think he can go on with it now.

"When he won the Breeders' Plate in the spring I said he was the best two-year-old I had trained and I haven't changed my mind."

Smart Missile is a home bred from Eduardo Cojuangco's Gooree Stud by Fastnet Rock out of Comical Smile.

Saturday's Pago Pago and Magic Night Stakes represent the last chances for two-year-olds to force their way into the Golden Slipper.

The winners of both races are exempt from a ballot on the race which has a maximum 16 starters.

Both Kris Lees, trainer of Skyline Stakes winner Uate and Gratz Vella, who prepares You're Canny who upset Karuta Queen to win the Black Opal, have indicated their charges will bypass the Slipper and go to the Sires' Produce Stakes a weeklater.
