Shaun Dwyer is hoping for a winning farewell at one of the few remaining meetings he has left as a trainer in Queensland ahead of his move to Victoria this month.

Dwyer, best known for winning the 2003 Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast with Regimental Gal, is setting up a new base adjacent to the Bendigo racecourse.

Originally from north Queensland, Dwyer spent several years as foreman for trainers Bart Cummings and Gai Waterhouse in Sydney before returning to his home state in 1998.

After training for a number of years at Toowoomba he moved to Deagon on Brisbane's northern outskirts but high rents were one reason which prompted his decision to move south.

Dwyer has four runners at Eagle Farm on Wednesday but won't be represented at Saturday's Doomben meeting before his departure the following weekend.

Choose A Star will be Dwyer's first representative in the Miss Danehill Maiden (1400m) followed by fillies Northbank and Smarties in the www.qtc.org Maiden (1000m) while Private Kiss will tackle the Sharscay Maiden (1000m).

Dwyer rates Private Kiss and Choose A Star as his best hopes of making a winning farewell.

Promising apprentice Michael Hellyer, who landed his third city winner at Eagle Farm last Wednesday, will partner Choose A Star while Glen Colless rides Private Kiss.

"I haven't got a runner at Doomben next Saturday and the following Saturday will more than likely be my last meeting here before I go," Dwyer said.

"Once I get the contract finalised on the Bendigo property I'll be off but in the meantime I won't have many runners as most of the stable are going for a short break.

"I think Private Kiss and Choose A Star are my best chances tomorrow."

Choose A Star, a daughter of Choisir, was a moderate sixth at her last appearances in a 1640-metre Maiden Plate at Doomben on Australia Day.

"It was a heavy track that day but if she got her act together she's more than capable of winning despite her bad barrier (10)," Dwyer said.

Private Kiss hasn't raced for nearly two years since she failed in two starts as a two-year-old in March 2007.

"She's drawn a bit awkwardly (10) but she won a barrier trial easily at Doomben last month," Dwyer said.

Northbank and Smarties will both will be making their debut.
