Punters are going cold on All Silent in George Ryder Stakes betting with the likelihood of a heavy track but trainer Grahame Begg has warned the horse is not a complete duffer in the wet.
"He has won on a slow, so he's not useless on rain-affected going by any means," Begg said.
"There are plenty of horses in the race with no wet track form so we'll wait and see what happens but I wouldn't be writing All Silent off."
All Silent's failure at his only run on a heavy surface in last year's Doncaster in which he finished 12th to Triple Honour is sure to have influenced punters.
But he ran a good race when fourth to Theseo in the Epsom Handicap (1600m) on a slow seven Randwick track in October.
The Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou is the $3.50 favourite ahead of All Silent who has drifted from $3.80 to $4.20 for Saturday's 1500-metre race which boasts 10 Group One winners.
The pair also dominate the Doncaster market in which they are locked together in favouritism at $5.
"We couldn't possibly have him better for this race and he is right on track for the Doncaster," Begg said.
Track manager Lindsay Murphy said Rosehill was a heavy nine on Friday and with more rain expected he believes the surface would most likely stay in the heavy range.
Whobegotyou has never raced on anything worse than dead and comes into the race after running a half-neck second to Heart Of Dreams in the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) two weeks ago.
All Silent is coming off a brilliant win over Forensics in the Group Two Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on March 21.
The Randwick trainer is expecting the Gai Waterhouse-trained Northern Meteor to set a decent speed with All Silent to park just off the pace after drawing barrier five.
"He's (Northern Meteor) drawn out in 13 and with the blinkers on for the first time he will go forward, that's when he's at his best," Begg said.
"Hopefully that sets the race up nicely for us and that's where having a rider of Damien Oliver's calibre comes into play, he knows the horse so well."
Group One winner Mentality has been scratched by trainer John Hawkes because of the wet track.
Begg said stablemate Palacio De Cristal was also in top shape for her Group One assignment in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
The AJC Australian Oaks-bound filly finished fourth to Allez Wonder in the Listed Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 22.
"I'm very happy with her condition and think she'll run a big race," Begg said.
The $2 million Doncaster (1600m) and the Oaks (2400m) are both at Randwick on April 18.
