Diplomatic Force will go into the Group One Goodwood in May without another run with trainer Wayne Nicholls relying on his outstanding fresh record.

Diplomatic Force made it four wins from five first-up outings when he stormed home to win the Group Three R N Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on March 9, beating Let Go Thommo and Blahnik.

"That seems to suit him the best so I can't see any point in running him before as he's going to get a start in the race," Nichols said.

"He seems to race well in the autumn and he races very well at Morphettville, he just seems to love the place."

The four-year-old has raced at the Adelaide track three times for two wins including the 2008 Group Two Yallambee Stud Stakes (1200m) and a third in last year's Group One The Goodwood (1200m) behind Shadoways and the now retired Cargo Cult.

The $300,000 sprint, run under set-weights and penalties conditions, has also attracted six-time Group One winner Takeover Target who will run against Apache Cat in the Group One T J Smith (1200m) at Randwick on April 18 before venturing to Adelaide.

Nichols said Diplomatic Force would not go to Queensland this winter where last year he ran third to El Cambio in the Group Three BTC Classic (1350m) at Doomben before finishing 14th to Mr Baritone in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

"He'll come home, have a spell and get ready for the early spring in Melbourne and then the Oakleigh Plate next year.

"I was going to get him ready for the Oakleigh Plate this year but he had a few setbacks and we ran out of time."

Meanwhile Greg Eurell has announced plans for last season's Champion Sprinter award winner Apache Cat after he contests the T J Smith.

Connections have scrapped an overseas trip to Singapore and Royal Ascot for the seven-time Group One winner who will go to Brisbane for the BTC Cup (1200m) and the Doomben 10,000 (1350m), races he won last year.

"It's a plan that worked for us last year and we'd like to do it again this year," Eurell said.

"It's a bit easier as he doesn't have to go in and out of quarantine and gives us the opportunity to have one more run than he would have if he did go to Singapore."
