Takeover Target hasn't scared Echuca trainer Gwenda Johnstone off her bid for back-to-back Goodwood Handicaps with Shadoways.

Shadoways landed his first and only Group One victory in the 1200m feature 12 months ago when he scored by 1-3/4 lengths from the now retired Cargo Cult, with Diplomatic Force third and Pinnacles fourth.

The Encosta De Lago gelding carried 54kg under the set-weights plus penalties conditions but will have to carry 58kg at Morphettville on Saturday, just 0.5kg less than international star Takeover Target.

Now a six-year-old, Shadoways is taking a different path to the Goodwood having not raced since finishing equal fourth to Typhoon Zed in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley last September.

Last year he went into the race fifth-up having run eighth behind Weekend Hussler in the Newmarket Hcp (1200m) at Flemington.

"He's going well. We took him to Benalla for a barrier trial last Wednesday which he won well," Johnstone said of his 2-1/2 length win from Lotsa Grunt over 1000m.

Johnstone also has Shadoways younger half-brother Imashadow, who won last Saturday's Kokoda Track Hcp (1200m) at Flemington carrying the minimum weight (53kg), entered for the Goodwood, but said he would not back up in the $300,000 race.

"He's got 54kg and you couldn't take on Takeover Target with him," said Johnstone.

Takeover Target is currently the sixth biggest earner in Australasian racing with $5,828,050 in prizemoney after impressively landing his seventh Group One victory in the T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 18.

The Joe Janiak-trained nine-year-old arrived in Adelaide last Thursday. He is based at Morphettville and will gallop there on Tuesday morning before regular rider Jay Ford flies over for his final pre-Goodwood work-out on Thursday.

Takeover Target dominates Goodwood betting as a $1.85 TAB Sportsbet favourite to land his 21st win on Saturday, ahead of the Peter Morgan-trained I Am Invincible at $11.

Shadoways, who won the race last year at $31, is quoted at $41.
