Exciting two-year-old Denman is on target to remain unbeaten this campaign and confirm a Group One date in next month's Golden Rose in Sydney.

Trainer Peter Snowden has lifted his sights with the Lonhro colt who will be on trial for the $1 million Rosehill feature in Saturday's Purrealist Inglis Bonus (1200m) at Sandown.

A short break was considered for Denman after he cruised home nearly three lengths ahead of Dane Babylon in the SMS Scaffolding Handicap (1100m) at Flemington on June 27 but the stable is keen to get another look at him before transferring him to Sydney.

"We will judge him on his performance at Sandown on Saturday and if he comes out and handles them as well he did last start he will definitely go up for a race like the Golden Rose in Sydney," assistant trainer Paul Snowden said.

Denman was a headstrong youngster and was nearly gelded after he finished third at Flemington at his race debut in December but was dominant when he opened his winter campaign with a 2-1/2 length win at Kilmore.

Snowden said occasional day trips to the races had help Denman adjust to race day routines and he was a much more relaxed horse this campaign.

"He has always had quality there and it has just been a matter of him producing it on a race day," Snowden said.

"He was a slow maturing horse who is still learning and racing is the only thing that is going to get him there."

The Golden Rose (1400m) is at Rosehill on August 29.

Denham captured the imagination of Peter Mertens with the way he won last start, with the jockey declaring: "I couldn't stop him, he was travelling that well."

Unfortunately for Mertens he is suspended and can't continue his association with the colt on Saturday allowing Craig Williams to seize the mount as he attempts to build a winning lead on the Melbourne jockeys premiership.

Williams and Damien Oliver, who is on holidays, are currently tied in the lead on 66 wins each.

Williams other five Sandown rides are also good chances - Swift Bay (Triforce Services Handicap), Soul Diva (Veneto Club Handicap), Silky Smooth (Triforce Australia Handicap), Red Buttons (Christopher Stear Handicap), and Ma Shang (Viva! Photography Handicap).
